First of all, I had no idea where to start looking. I didn’t think I would ever find a job that would fit into the crazy puzzle that is my mom life. But I did eventually find a flexible work from home job. And I know you can too!
My own journey to find a work from home job is why I decided to write this post. That, and I keep hearing from parents in my Facebook groups about how they are also looking for remote work from home jobs. The struggle is real!
As busy parents we are constantly juggling, and you might not have the time to research the most legitimate work from home jobs. Hopefully this post will save you a little time and will give you a good starting point for finding a flexible gig. Keep in mind that even if the work from home job is not based in your state, you may still be eligible for it through a Professional Employer Organization (PEO), an administrative co-employer that can pay you and manage your benefits across state lines.

#1: Virtual Assistant
This job basically entails being an assistant to someone or a department in a company. And instead of going to work in-person, you do the job remotely (hence, the virtual part). Job tasks are going to depend upon the company hiring for the position and what they need help with.
Most virtual assistant jobs are centered around the following types of job functions or areas:
- Customer service
- Social media marketing
- Scheduling and event planning
- Project management
My best advice regarding a virtual assistant type of role is the following: Do your homework. Think about the types of tasks you enjoy doing and that you are naturally good at. For example, are you a people person? Getting a virtual assistant job that allows you to interact with people might work better than one where you’re working mostly alone.
The best places to look for virtual assistant jobs is through companies who are hiring for these roles directly. You can also check with top employment agencies and temp agencies who connect virtual assistants with available jobs and companies. This route might be a faster way to get your foot in the door to a company and start making money.
Once you get hired by an employment agency, even if you are initially working as a part-time contractor, if you prove yourself the job could eventually turn into a full-time position.
The great news about this type of work from home job is that there is typically no specific training or experience required. However, if the job has a specialty area like social media marketing, project management, or research, having those job skills or training will definitely be a plus and can get you higher pay. Call center agent jobs tend to get bad raps. But before you jump to any conclusions, I would encourage you to browse job openings for this type of work. With automation and self-service options, customers can get their basic questions answered. That leaves call center agents to handle more complex issues. If you’re someone who likes a challenge and you have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, this could be the gig for you!
Enter the World of Remote Work
The nice thing about this job is that it doesn’t typically require a specific degree or related experience. However, as with applying for any job, you want to format your resume in a way that highlights your transferable and related skills. For example, listening skills, empathy, and diplomacy are all necessary skills to be successful as a call center agent.
#3: Tutor
Do you have skills or training and education in one particular subject or subjects? If so, you can look into remote tutoring! This is a great flexible, home-based job for folks with a background in teaching or education. You can leverage your teaching experience and make a transition into tutoring.
Even if you don’t have experience working in education, the most you will typically need to find an online tutoring job is your GED. Whether or not you need additional training will depend upon the subject area you are teaching. As our world gets more digital and automated, human skills like written and oral communication will continue to become more critical.

If you are a technically savvy person and/or you have a background in computer science or a related field, you can work as a remote software or web developer.
If you don’t have a technical degree, there are several ways to gain the necessary skills to become a software developer. For example, you can take coding bootcamps which are basically short, intensive courses that will teach you programming skills and knowledge around specific topics. For example, algorithms, coding languages, and database management.
True, it helps if you have a bachelor’s degree in software development, computer science, or computer engineering. However, if you are self-motivated and willing to gain the necessary job skills, you can make yourself a highly qualified applicant to land a remote role in this field.
Web development is similar in that you don’t need a technical degree. If you don’t have a related degree, taking a coding bootcamp will give you the basics in web development and will also give you hands-on project experience. At the end you will have advanced skills and a portfolio to show potential employers or clients.
You can also take online courses and earn certifications in specialty areas of interest, for example coding languages like Python. Once you have acquired skills and experience, you can use a hybrid or functional resume to market your related achievements.
#6: Data Analyst
I had to throw in data analytics because this is a rapidly growing field. Not only that but it’s a great stay at home job for moms with no experience. There are online programs that will train you with the skills you need to land a job in this field within just six months.
If you are someone who loves and has a knack for problem-solving, research, and statistics and you are interested in using data to help companies solve problems, this career path might be worth looking into!
Other fast-growing fields where you can find remote jobs or home-based jobs include cyber security, digital marketing, and IT support. There are also training programs for these roles that will give you the skills and experience necessary to land a well-paying job.
